I live off the electric grid. I get the bulk of my electricity from solar and store it in batteries. I also rely on a diesel generator to fill in the gaps when the solar can't fill the load or the batteries are being finicky. What I have learned about diesel generators in the six years I've been here is that they're loud, they need maintenance, they're heavy, and they're hard to move. I've also learned that people that service them are expensive and have a tendency to be extremely dismissive when you call them to say "my generator stopped working, I have a power emergency, help help help." In fact this seems so common that I feel a need to publicly thank a local businessman who has been fast, affordable, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely to want to help get me out of a jam.

If you live within 100 miles of Sacramento, CA and use industrial engines (generators, pumps, etc) I HIGHLY recommend JG Engine & Generator. Tell John that Joe sent you. According to his card he's the go-to guy for "Industrial / Agricultural, Engines and Power Units, Diesel and Gas Powered Generator Sets, Engine Repair and Overhaul, Field Service". You should call him at the office at 916 332 4010.
